Everlast has always sought to meet the needs of the hobbyist and the professional as the company has grown. By carefully evaluating there own products to make them suitable to the highest standards of the welding industry, Everlast have wrestled with there concerns over the use of MOSFET technology in our machines. The debate over IGBT (Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor) and MOSFET (Metal-Oxide Semi-conductor Field Effect Transistor) technology has been on-going at the manufacturer level for years. Since we incorporate light weight and powerful inverter technology in the Everlast welders and plasma cutters, Everlast rely upon transistors to power and stabilize the welding arc. Typically the MOSFET has proven less capable of handling the punishing demands of high heat, high duty cycle welding equipment. While suitable for certain low-end welding applications, MOSFET technology has been known to fail when pushed to its' limits. IGBT technology, however, has proved extremely capable of handling the typical harsh work environments where there machines are in daily use. Early issues with IGBT technology have been eliminated thanks to modern manufacturing techniques. MOSFET failures are typically linked to design and have been largely abandoned by the mainstream inverter welder industry. Similarly, Everlast too recognize the issues with MOSFET and have transitioned most of our product line to IGBT technology.Nearly all Everlast Welders and Plasma cutters come standard with Siemans IGBT technology from Germany to ensure the highest quality product available. Only the SuperCut Plasma cutters retain Mosfet technology as they are proven to handle the demands of the amperage requirements of the smaller units with no problems.
